Gravity
But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.” James 4:6
Gravity is more than a law of physics. It’s a sacred sermon from our Creator embedded in the earth. More than just the force that keeps your feet on the ground or this book in your hands, gravity is a God-ordained principle that calls all of creation to surrender. The very pull you feel, even now, is His gentle invitation to yield. It whispers wisdom — drawing us downward into humility where grace awaits and the presence of God draws near.
I remember the first time I stood alone in our baby girl’s nursery. In the quiet stillness of the morning, the soft light over the crib and the tiny clothes hanging in the closet all seemed to echo one truth: this is holy ground. But with that holiness came a deep heaviness. The calling of motherhood pressed in on me like a mountain, and I felt small beneath its weight. My voice trembled as I confessed my concern: How could I possibly raise a God-honoring child in a world like this? The gravity of that moment brought me to my knees – and it was there, in that lowly place, that the presence of the Lord met me.
As mothers, we carry a sacred and significant mantle. Don’t resist the weight it brings. When it feels too heavy to bear, let gravity do its work. Let it humble you. Let it bring you to your knees and strip away the illusion of self-sufficiency. This heart posture of surrender is deeply attractive to the Lord. It’s in that very place – low, yielded, and open that His perfect strength meets us. Humility draws God’s attention; it shines a spotlight on us that ushers in His grace and power. As James reminds us, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” So we can be confident: when we come to the end of ourselves, we’re drawing near to the beginning of His strength.
Recognizing our weakness positions us to receive His unearned favor. As daughters of the King, we are empowered daily by His Spirit because He loves us. All He asks is that we acknowledge our need for Him. When we’re keenly aware of our insufficiency, our cries for help become pure and powerful.
In our own power, we are all unqualified for motherhood. But that truth is a hidden gift. It grounds us in Christ, our firm foundation. We are far safer in the full awareness of our need for Him than we could ever be in the false confidence of self-sufficiency. Our daily struggles reveal a reality that never change: we desperately need the Lord. If He covered you yesterday, that’s all the evidence you need to trust that He will carry you again today. You’ve made it through your easiest days and your hardest ones. Guess what? Both are miracles.
Anchored in humility, we lift our eyes to the hills, where our help comes from. In God’s upside-down kingdom, weakness isn’t something to hide – it’s something to boast in. The weight you feel was never meant to crush, but to conform us into the image of Christ. It’s a holy invitation to experience His all-sufficient power.
So today, rest in the reality that you were created to move with gravity. Let it pull you low. And there, on the descent, you’ll find Christ waiting to catch you. Let gravity bring you down – so God can lift you up.
